BAM recon

Parked at the Piedmont City Park today in Piedmont, SD and rode up Little Elk Creek, past Dalton Lake and cleaned the first ridge. This makes up about the first 10 miles of the Knifeblade Rock and Roll 35 mile cross-country mountain bike race/ride that is part of the Sturgis BAM Festival coming up on July 9, 2011. I took a bunch of audio notes and a few photos and will be riding the rest of the route over the next week or so. You can expect to see the route detailed on the site shortly after that.

BHFTF

Traffic to the site is up considerably, no doubt as a result of attendees of the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival checking things out. Welcome to town from PahaSapaTrails.com, we hope you enjoy your stay!

Had a good little rip at Storm earlier this morning, quite damp down in Coon Hollow but by and large the trails are tacky and fun!

Victoria Lake Loop (15 mile)

Yesterday we (myself and Sam R.) made an easy pace around the 15 mile loop at Victoria Lake, taking nearly three hours of riding time to cover the 15 (16 really) miles. This was my first time around this particular loop and it makes an exceptional ride, everything is well routed and no pitch is overly steep. There are some epic climbs on this ride as well as some epic descents, but every bit is enjoyable and ride-able. I will be doing this loop again soon now that I have found my way around so that I can generate route notes for this site.

Trail images coming

I spent a bit of time this weekend writing some scripts that will cross-reference my entire flickr library with my entire collection of GPS logs and geotag any photo that was taken while riding. I now have almost 500 trail photos ready to put on the site, as soon as I work out a few user interface issues.

Rain

With potentially inches of rain in the forecast in the near future it may be several weeks or more before any significant new content is added to the site. This time will likely be used implementing new features, so if you have any ideas now is the time to let me know! Email me at sjg@thesjg.com

Victoria’s Secret

After reading on the BHMBA forums that local athlete extraordinare Gary H. and others had marked the Victoria’s Secret loop near Victoria Lake, Sam R. and I decided to head out and see if we could find our way around. It was a pretty good ride (despite beginning with a good climb) and had excellent views. I have already cleaned up the log and recorded quite a few audio notes during the ride, so this should make it onto the website, including details on the (few) tricky spots to navigate fairly shortly.

Website changes and a new blog

Yesterday and today I have been working on a number of non-functional website changes, these include some static content such as the About page for interested parties as well as the Legal and Advertising pages. Also new is this blog, which is intended to bring interested parties both a better understanding of the what, why and how this site operates as well as relevant trail news and happenings from around the Black Hills.

This blog is brand new as of today, but I have already back-dated a couple of posts and may back-date more in the future in order to provide some semblance of linearity
